Iron-Fortified Food
Products designed for different stages and nutritional needs, including powdered porridges for babies, chocolates and dragees for children, and iron- and folic-acid-fortified chocolate for pregnant women.
Iron-fortified food innovation to prevent and combat anemia in babies, children and pregnant women in Peru.
The challenge is not only access to iron-rich food.
Social conditions, nutrition knowledge and limited access to appropriate products can also affect the prevention and recovery process.
EVAND’S was created to address this challenge through an integrated approach combining nutrition, education, innovation and collaboration.
In 2020, we met Miguel, a baby with a cleft lip who could not undergo surgery because he had anemia.
At that time, we found that there were no iron-fortified products specifically designed for babies. So we developed our first iron-fortified porridge.
Miguel recovered from anemia and was able to undergo surgery. His story became the starting point for a broader solution.
EVAND’S combines three complementary elements so that food innovation can travel beyond the package.
Products designed for different stages and nutritional needs, including powdered porridges for babies, chocolates and dragees for children, and iron- and folic-acid-fortified chocolate for pregnant women.
Free demonstration sessions teach families about the importance of iron and how to prepare iron-rich foods using ingredients available in their own region.
Our digital application helps monitor beneficiary progress and identify social conditions that may affect anemia, supporting collaboration with municipalities, health centers, parents and partner organizations.
EVAND’S began as a healthy school kiosk. By understanding children's tastes, behaviors and needs, the team moved from a single food service experience to specific nutritional solutions for different stages of life.

During interventions, EVAND’S identified that access to safe water, housing conditions and other social determinants can make children's recovery more difficult. The response evolved from designing products to designing an intervention system.
EVAND’S developed its own application to monitor these conditions and share information with the stakeholders involved: families, health centers, municipalities and organizations.

Connecting products and support around anemia prevention.
The objective is not simply to sell a fortified product, but to connect nutrition, education, monitoring and local collaboration around the prevention and reduction of anemia.
Our products are designed from the real needs we encounter in communities.
We began in 2018 with a healthy school kiosk in Huánuco. This experience helped us understand children’s preferences and nutritional needs. We later developed iron-fortified chocolates and other products for children.
When we identified the lack of suitable iron-fortified products for babies, we developed powdered porridges. The powdered format made transportation and storage easier, allowing the products to reach more remote areas.
For pregnant women, we developed chocolate fortified with iron and folic acid in different flavors.
The first initiative connected healthy food, iron fortification and the everyday reality of schoolchildren.
The pandemic prompted a reinvention around iron-fortified products and free nutrition sessions.
EVAND’S expanded its educational work and presence through collaboration and community activities.

Three roles connect production, administration and the market around a shared purpose.

We want to reach more children and families who need access to better nutrition and effective solutions against anemia.
Our next challenge involves automating processes, securing new certifications, and expanding our partnerships to reach more communities throughout Peru.
